Once, one of the most exhausting and back breaking gardening projects was to prepare or maintain the soil in an effort to establish a beautiful garden. That all changed when the Hula-Ho was first introduced in 1961 “The weeder with the wiggle” forever changed the way gardeners weed, aerate, mulch and cultivate their gardens. Quite simply, the heat treated, self-sharpening Hula-Ho blade works beneath the surface of the soil. The almost effortless back and forth “hula” motion cuts weeds at the roots. Meanwhile, the weeds and soil blend to create a healthy mulch. This Hula-Ho garden weeder and cultivator features a 54-Inch Alumilite handle with a cushion grip for easy use. Made in the USA.
Awesome – wish I found this item 25 years ago! ~ reviewed by Happy Person
My only problem with this tool is the fact that I didn’t discover it 25 years ago!
It’s amazing. Simple as that.
It takes all the bending, squatting, kneeling and effort out of weeding.
The handle is good and long so you can stand up straight and effortlessly weed any type of weed, even those with long tap roots. Simple scape the hoop slightly under the soil and the root and weed is pulled up.
I’m an ‘older’ person, with several spinal fusions and an artificial disc in my back and finally, I am able to garden again because of this tool.
Every gardener should have one.
Gift for mom, total winner ~ reviewed by paintfish
I’ve used a stirrup hoe in the past and knew they were great. Last time I visited my mom she was griping about all the seeds from the maple tree that are sprouting as mini-maples in her garden. I told her about the stirrup hoe and ordered one for her. it arrived within 2 days (LOVE Amazon prime!). She loves the long aluminum handle and ws really impressed. She said that it only took her about half an hour to weed her entire garden, about 30’x20′ I think. She couldn’t get over how easy it was to cut under the surface of the soil and slice the weeds under through the root and pull them up out of the soil with some of the root. Granted, it has rained recently for her, so the soil was nice and soft. She says with this, she may never have to give up gardening (she’s in her 60s now.) No bending, no kneeling, just quick! And so much easier than the old straight blade hoe with the chopping motion. I’m happy she’s happy!
Lightweight, good blade ~ reviewed by Ellie Arroway
Sturdy construction despite being very lightweight, good rivets, nice double-edged blade, fantastic value.
This tool (also called a scuffle hoe) allows you to dig on both the forward and backward motions, doubling your effort. You can dig about two inches deep, enough for weeding around a garden or loosening soil for a fresh bed/grass seed.
The blade is self-sharpening as you use it, but I do recommend taking a few minutes to sharpen it before the first use.
I bouthgt this for my 75 year-old uncle who loves gardening. When he received the box it was so lightweight he thought it was empty! It has helped save his back and knees and allow him to continue his favorite hobby. I have a similar tool (but with a heavier wooden handle) and highly recommend this to anyone with a yard to care for!
Well made tool! ~ reviewed by B. Corley
Great time for the avid gardener. My mother has a similar item in a small version and loves it. Can’t wait to give her this one.
Made well and very lightweight.
Disappointed ~ reviewed by Stoneycreekgirl
We thought that this hoe would have a sharpened edge. It seems to be made well, but it will only work in soft soil with a few weeds. We needed something tougher

I like the flexrake because it works like they say it does. I used it a lot this summer without any problems
Not such a great buy ~ reviewed by lizbethgd
Scratched up when delivered. Not sharp so I guess that makes the self-sharpening claim easiest to meet. Finally learned my lesson, and I’ll be buying products like this in a store where I can evaluate them in person.

I really like the 1000A Hula-Ho Weeder. It goes in those hard to get to areas. It make weeding so much easier and faster! JK
